BEING A FASHION DESIGNER – BUT ONLY FOR A MOMENT

Being a fashion designer is not an easy task. Every profession needs hard work & dedication. Apart from that, a quality time at work is very important to achieve success. These days I am very busy & frustrated due to work. I literally shout on my employees as I am very stressed to meet the deadlines. This week is full of  very hustle bustle due to the new collection launch. What makes me even more frustrated is the lack of discipline that I currently observe at my boutique. I am very disappointed at my workers. I had no meal since morning. I do not even have a second to sit & relax. Currently nothing can please me more than a satisfying customer & a good word of mouth. I aim to work all day & night because success tastes so good. A client needs a dress which is out of the stock. I informed my staff about the demand, but still the staff has not arranged the dress. The client is coming to collect the dress in a while. I have no idea what will happen next. My staff can suspect too many emotions inside me. I am angry, I am worried, I am stressed, I am tired & a lot more. I have never been so worried in my life before. I was thinking about my boutique… It was my dream once & now it is my life. I can not let it’s image ruin. I was lost in my own thoughts when suddenly I heard the alarm ring. Getting back to my senses I realized it was just a dream & I was sleeping in my bed without any worries. I realized I am not a fashion designer. I have orders to fulfill & no requirements to meet.

I started wondering, “Does success or failure really matters when everything has to end anyway? Why is there a need to worry, even if that is for a few minutes? The role that we play in a particular situation or time, is that really our actual role?”

I do not work in reality. My reality is very different from my dream. We all play different roles in different situations. We see hundreds of dreams. We call some dreams good, some bad & sometimes we do not even remember the dreams after waking up. The weirdest thing is that we can feel in the dreams. Sometimes we wake up feeling weird about someone or something after we see a dream. But do we care about the feelings or what happened in the dream? No. Because it was just a dream & we do not have control over it. Now take a moment & think about your life. Life is also like a dream. All that has passed feels like a dream. We run behind so many things. We want fame, success, money, recognition, luxuries & many more. The cost of achieving all these things are sleepless nights, skipping family functions, lack of bonding with friends & less time spent with the loved ones. Stress & anxiety are a companions on the way. Life is exactly like the dream which is going to end anyway, no matter what we do. We get stressed over little things. Everyday is a race for something different in which we play a different role every other day, every other moment. Now if you look back at moments in the past you will feel weird for feeling so worried back in the past. You would have never worried if you knew every thing will be perfectly alright. Life is a dream where every day every moment we play a different role. We need to understand that all problems, all stress, all worries are just for a limited time. Therefore, do not occupy your mind with worries as this moment will be a dream tomorrow.

All life is temporary. Why worry about anything that is only temporary!

BEAUTY

BEAUTY – We often hear this word. We almost hear it every day.We have heard people calling different things as beautiful. Even different people are called beautiful, for their looks & qualities. But none of us has ever wondered that what does the word beauty mean?

The general definition of beauty is the combination of qualities which give pleasure to the senses & exalts the mind & spirit. Most of us only consider half of this definition which says “Beauty is the combination of qualities which give pleasure to the senses” but we neglect the remaining part of the definition which is far more important which says “that gives pleasure to the senses & exalts the mind & spirit”. But we have confined the word beauty to the physical attributes only like color, shape, appearance, etc. In reality beauty is much more than just a physical attribute as the definition itself says “it is a combination of qualities.”

Different people have different definition of the word beautiful. Some people consider rain beautiful while some consider it irritating. Some people consider babies beautiful, but for others they are annoying & messy. Some people fall for the blue eyes while others are crazy for black ones. Each & every person has a different perspective & different choice when it comes to calling something or someone beautiful. Beauty has nothing to do with physical attributes, in fact beauty is completely related to attributes that satisfy our soul. Beauty is everlasting, it is not temporary & this is the only reason for which it is called beautiful because it is not going to end. If beauty was only related to physical appearance, then how it would be everlasting & if it is going to end or change then how it is beautiful? What is unique about being beautiful? As everything is temporary, it changes. Beauty has the tendency to remain permanent. Whatever makes us feel happy remains close to heart forever. Everything is temporary except soul & the good deeds that will remain forever. Temporary things which look beautiful are juts an illusion which deceive us for a certain time period & they will vanish as the poet  John Keats said; A thing of beauty is a joy forever: Its loveliness increases; it will never pass into nothingness.”

Many people, especially girls feel like they are not beautiful. They consider themselves inferior on the basis of their complexion, weight, figure, dressing & many other material things & physical attributes. But the truth is that a person who has a caring heart & soul is a beautiful person. The person who cares for others, love others, help others, see good in others, who can feel other people’s pain & becomes the reason of someone’s smile is a beautiful person. If you prove yourself to be an umbrella for people who are in pain, no matter what colour you are, what race you belong to, what dress you wear, what language you speak… Trust me you are the most beautiful person of this world! Shout out to all those people who have been the reason of someone’s happiness, who have helped someone, who care for other people, who try to spread happiness. Such people are more than beautiful because you have “the heart who cares!”

“What you feel is what you are,
And what you are is beautiful.”

WRONG BUTTON

I woke up at 7:30 a.m. thinking, this day might be same as other days where I follow my regular routine. But I had no idea that this day was about to be different & I was about to encounter too many questions that I never thought of before.

Anyway following my daily routine, I had my breakfast & left for my university. My best friend Ayesha seemed upset. I asked her the reason for being so low. She told me that her father lost his job & her whole family was upset. His father was a hardworking & honest employee. Lost in the conversation, she asked me “Why Allah (S.W.T) did this to me & my family? We never expected this to happen. Have we done anything wrong?” Looking at the grief in her eyes, I had no words to say. I kept starring in her face & said “Put your faith in Allah (S.W.T). He will give you your answers soon.”

Later that day I was looking for my another friend Uzma, who was my senior. I borrowed a novel to read from her few weeks back. I had to return it to her. I kept looking for her & I could not find her. I decided to go to her friends to inquire about her. I met some of her friends & asked them about her. They said that she left the university as she was unable to pass the exams & she decided not to waste any more money on this. Though she was a bright & studious student but she was unable to understand the business subjects. Listening about Uzma, another question popped up in my mind, “Why Allah (S.W.T) did not help her despite her hard work?” Students who cheated in their exams passed. But the one who never cheated & worked hard, failed. She was capable than many other students of her class. Hearing about Ayesha & then Uzma, made me upset. I could not get them off my mind. I had so many questions in my mind & no one to answer those questions.

Later that day, in the evening, my mom asked me to bring her a glass of water. Lost in my thoughts, I went into the kitchen & switched on the button to turn on the light. The light did not turn on. I waited for like 5 seconds. Then I realized, I pressed the wrong button, that is why the light did not turn on. And suddenly, I felt like I got all the answers to my questions.

Life is a dark room that either brightens up or becomes even more darker as we take decisions about different things happening in our life. When we make wrong choices, we never get fruitful results. No matter how long we wait & pray, but something that is not meant to be ours, never becomes a part of our life & we never fit in. In many cases waiting is worthwhile, but not all the time. After a suitable time of trying & waiting we have to move on & find the button that is meant to brighten up our life. Mistakes are for learning. Wrong choices of past should never stop one from moving on & making the right choices. Once after making the wrong choices one should not stay at the same place in the darkness, in fact move on, searching for light.

It has been 6 months now, Ayesha’s father found a new job which is far better than the last one, with more monetary as well as non-monetary benefits. Uzma is now enrolled in a law university & she is topper of her university. It seems like failure did not stop them from moving on & they found the right buttons.

So the moral is, failure is not the end. Stopping & not trying new things is the real failure. Keep moving on & trying. After sadness there is happiness. Never let failure or your fears stop you!

“SO VERILY, WITH THE HARDSHIP, THERE IS RELIEF!”
(Surah Al-Nashrah, Ayat: 6)
